Genesis of the Work

There was a time when dinosaurs perished, their carcasses in swamps filled with decaying vegetation.
From this mixture, through time, has sprung oil, this oil, a coveted substance, so necessary for our modern world.

Plastics were extracted from petroleum, which in turn became waste that litter our cities, our countryside, which pollutes our seas and oceans…
To a certain extent, they also contribute to our own demise…

Irony of fate !

Plastic materials, despised and rejected by our society of abundance.
“Not a noble material” will say some,
like gold, stone, wood…!

Definitely, a class story, like our homeless, our poor, our bohemians and our marginalized, also abandoned by so-called democratic and Christian societies, because they do not have the stuff, the money or the veneer necessary to to be entitled to our respect.

One day, having made myself this reflection, I decided to use plastics in my art, hoping thus to make them beautiful and noble in the eyes of others, because “Beauty and Nobility are all relative values”.

Jules Koehler, 1990.
